In conclusion, the development and testing of fully autonomous self-driving cars began in the US in the 2010s. However, a tragic incident in 2018 involving a pedestrian being struck and killed by an Uber self-driving car raised ethical and safety concerns. Uber temporarily halted testing but later resumed on a smaller scale. Ethicists had already questioned collision avoidance software and the moral and legal responsibilities associated with autonomous vehicles.
